Practicing more people.
I started with some sketching. For the most part, I like to look in magazines at real people for references:
I’m pretty sure my final characters look nothing like their inspiration, so I’m not too worried about using them as references.
I drew the man’s head looking straight on. Which seemed a little weird. I decided it was because it was like when someone looks at the camera in a video. It engages the observer and breaks up the story.
I think.
Anyway, I’m sure it can be used well, but I thought I’d try a side view. And he looked really happy about something, so I took a scene from one of my stories, where a little girl is learning to read and every word she reads with her dad brings about exciting events, like apples falling from the sky:

I learned how to use a textured background today, yay me!
Argh. Eyes are hard. They look fine on a full screen, but in these little pics on the computer, they just about disappear…
