Next up: Little Critter.
I adore Mercer Mayer. Not just the little critter books, but all of his illustrations. They are quirky and fun, and tell multiple stories within one page. I especially love the little bonus characters — spider, cricket, mouse — that are tucked in for added fun. They reach kids on so many levels. For the babies, you can simply go through the story looking for the mouse. For the bigger kids, they make the story even funnier. For adults, they often seem to add to the meaning of the whole scene. When I’m illustrating, I don’t feel like my work is complete without the addition of a few little friends!
