Together

SVSlearn.com’s prompt for November was ‘Together’.

I had a few ideas about dwarves standing on shoulders to reach diamonds, or rabbits standing on each other in a burrow to reach carrots, or cats dangling another cat into the water to catch a fish (with other fish nearby ready to get the cat). But nothing tickled my interest enough to go further than the sketch.

Then we made brownies.

My husband got this fun little brownie pan for his birthday, that divides the brownies into slices right in the pan. It looked like a beautiful puzzle of chocolate goodness. Which got me thinking about puzzle illustrations. Have you read the absolutely brilliant book, Green Lizards vs Red Rectangles, by Steve Antony? If not, please do, you will love it. One of my favourite parts are all the stacked up lizards in the story:

They are so cute!

So I started brainstorming things that could puzzle together and make a story in a picture. Penguins around chicks. Dragons in the shape of a cave over eggs. And then I got it.

Sheep.

Sheep banding together to create one giant sheep, and drive the wolves away for good:

Really a lot of sheep.

Zoom in to find the ‘fun ones’ my kids insisted I put in there. Carrot munching, card playing, bow-tie wearing and several other cuties helped break up the monotony.

I’m quite happy with the picture!
