At the end of the Basic Perspective Drawing class at SVSlearn.com, David Hohn is teaching us about how to take a room plan and turn it into a basic perspective sketch. The last assignment is to take a floor plan and draw it in one point and two point perspective. I decided to try creating a room from one of my stories, where a boy stays up late planning ways to get his parents eating more vegetables.
I started with a room layout.
I squished the room layout with the perspective warp tool in Krita. Is that cheating?
I sketched up a basic idea.
Then I stuck the picture back in Krita, and set up perspective grids to try and help me keep track of where my lines were…
I tried a few different views.
I think this one is my favourite:
I learned, later, the difference between isometric and 2 point perspective. Not SVS’s fault. I’m sure it was mentioned. I’m just a slow learner.
All in all it was a great exercise. It helped highlight a lot of areas to grow. And it gave me hope that I might actually be able to make an illustration!
At least, my 5 year old approves of the colouring page I made.
