Apparently a writers retreat is a good thing.
I hit my wall of ‘oh-so-done’ at 9199 words.
And then I asked myself, ‘When are you ever going to have a chance to write over 10000 words in one day.’
Ever.
So I wrote another 939.
That was crazy.
Today I cut out one of my favourite characters. I promised her I’d bring her back in another story, maybe even the sequel to this one, because she is incredible. But that was part of the problem. She was kind of overshadowing my other two main characters. Things were getting too complicated. So out she went.
Now, however, because she was so awesome, she had been doing a lot of things in my story plan. So I had to readjust some scenes today. Thus a whole lot of what I wrote wasn’t super planned. It’s on track, but it’s becoming a mix and match of scenes. In order, but very different from my original vision.
This is hard for me to come to grips with as a plotter.
I think as long as I stay flowing in the right direction, meet the essential characters, discover the important bits of information, and grow characters in the needed ways, it will work out.
I hope.
Welcome Elephant.
We did good today, buddy.
