Okay, to help my study of creating whole scenes, I thought I would look into some of the DTIYS (do this in your style) challenges. And this was a beautiful one!

From my understanding, you take this picture and draw it in your style.
Perfect.
Except, I’m not sure I have a very strong style yet.
So I think this became more of a study. I totally tried to just tweak the original art, so that I was pushing my background skills, but still learning from the original artist. It’s a VERY nice style, and the simpleness of it is deceiving. There was a lot of thought and elements that went into that picture! I’ve never used white lines for outlining before. I tried different thicknesses for my main characters vs the background. I found different textures. There are a LOT of bricks. And the colour combo was genius.
I do like creating animal characters though. I even made a people!

Even now I see so many things I need to tweak, but we’re calling it a good learning experience and leaving it alone…
