This months prompt is to create one picture to represent a little story about a tricky monkey outsmarting an alligator so he can get an orange: https://forum.svslearn.com/topic/9501/june-contest-a-very-different-kind-of-prompt
I had a few sketches I played with:
Too hard.
Too easy.
Too abstract (The monkey and alligator are leaning against a tree on opposite sides of the river bank, making plans to eat their favourite thing), and not actiony enough:
There were a few others, but this was my favourite:
Except, I kept going back to this one:
I’d dismissed it as too hard, but I liked it the best.
And, since I’m trying to learn, I decided I should tackle it, for better or worse.
But I needed help…
Models!
With a bit of gruesome placement (sorry for the knife through your side, little monkey), and some extra hands (thanks hubby), I got a working model:
You know, without this photo, I’m not sure I would have remembered to blur and use less detail on the alligator.
I started sketching, and found my next challenge.
Hands.
Luckily I have somewhat willing minions at my disposal.
He had the most monkey like hands. Thanks minion.
And, many/several/lots and lots of hours later, I made a simple picture:
I had to mess around with colours.
Blue alligator?
Redder monkey, to make it more of the focal point:
Subtle outlining to define the monkey more defined?
And then I need to call it, because the tweaks can go on FOREVER.
