Ever start a project, and then feel words of doubt and inadequacy grow so loud that they almost drown out the joy that inherently comes from creation?
I used to enjoy creating art for the fun of it.
Then it became a waste of time.
Then I wasn’t good enough to try.
And then I grew up. Swallowed my pride. And decided it was time to start learning again.
Which brought me to SVSlearn.com. An online set of classes and podcasts and helpful forum for illustrators.
This is my happy place right now.
Yes I’m a geek. The courses take it right down to basics, without sounding condescending, and make the learning exciting.
I found it by asking the 12×12 illustrators group on facebook how people think of things to put in backgrounds (after asking how people even begin composing a picture: colours? shapes? things? How do you pick these?), highlighting my complete lack of any innate ability to art. And then I had several people recommend SVSlearn.com.
So I tiptoed over.
And felt very overwhelmed at everything I didn’t know.
Then I braved up and looked a little closer, and found specific courses that made me giddy with joy. Prop design! Environment design! Background Creation! Character creation! How to draw everything!
Okay. I’m on board.
Now to spark that great imagination of mine and turn it to better uses than conjuring up doubt and doom!
